Your Questions Answered #4

This month’s question is answered by Tania Ferris, Manager of Carer Recruitment and Development at MacKillop Family Services

Question:

“I’m not a parent — can I still be a foster carer?”

We absolutely welcome carers who have never been parents. Being motivated to offer a safe, stable, and loving home, and wanting to have children in your life are the requirements that matter most.

Whether you are single, in a relationship, working full-time, or have never raised children, carers from all kinds of backgrounds and experience are very much needed. Your life experience, patience, and willingness to support a child are what truly count.

If you are worried about lack of experience, it’s important to know you will not be on your own. You will receive full training, help around the clock and support from a team of professionals to help you feel confident every step of the way.

You have plenty of love and care to give, which is exactly what children need.
